The Canary islands | Guide to Spain Canary islands
The Canary Islands are now one of the biggest tourist destinations to people from the UK, Ireland and Germany with more than 10 millionpeople visiting the Islands in total. The Canary Islands consist of seven islands of volcanic origin in the Atlantic Ocean. They are located in the southwestern of Europe map on Africa coast and form an autonomous community of Spain.
This paradise group of Spain islands, enjoying a wonderful climate, with a constant mild temperature through all the year, and splendid beaches of fine sand, consists of 7 larger islands (Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro) and a few smaller ones (Alegranza, Graciosa, Montana Clara, Roque del Este, Roque del Oeste and Lobos). Surprisingly, the landscape of each of the Canary island is radically different to the others. |

Despite its position close to the tropics, the Canary Islandsare not too hot in summer, 21-29°C, pleasantly warm in winter weather, 15-20°C, and can be regarded as an all-year cruising ground. The frequency of gales is low and the islands are not affected by hurricanes. Although close together the islands can have very different weather.
This means that if Lanzarote is 30 degrees Tenerife could only be 20 degrees. The coasts on the southern slopes of each island are usually sunny deserts, while those on the northern slopes are much greener. he Canary Islands are included in the GMT zone (Greenwich Mean Time), although they should be in the GMT -1, due to their westerly situation. |
